The Andy and Anna Hershberger family publicly reunited after many weeks in hiding as they appeared at an Amish community meeting on Wednesday (12/18/13). Andy and Anna alone were the last to arrive after seeing it would be safe for them to attend. Surrounded by their community and church members, it was a joyful sight. They were the last to leave the building (a very old school dating back to the 1800’s) after the meeting that started with prayer and the song Amazing Grace. Walking through the snow the family of 10, all dressed in the traditional black Sunday best, climbed into their buggies. The scene seemed to symbolize a peaceful completeness, a family united and moving forward.

ANH-USA could be targeted—along with your right to political representation. In May 2013, the IRS was caught illegally discriminating against Tea Party groups applying for 501(c)4 nonprofit status. In short, the new IRS rules are an egregious violation of the First Amendment. Doctor Verbally Assaults Parent in Restaurant for Choosing Not to Vaccinate

Hardcore pro-vaccine proponents would have us believe the issue of vaccine safety and effectiveness is a closed issue. To them, there is no neutral ground. You are either an evangelist for vaccines or a threat to society with no middle ground in between. To merely raise questions is to be labeled as anti-vaccine and a threat to society. Just ask Katie Couric, who dared to allow some people on to her show to tell their story about how they were damaged by the Gardasil vaccine. Even though Couric stated that she was pro-vaccine and had her daughters vaccinated, it didn't matter. She was attacked viciously in the mainstream media, forced to apologize, and this week it was announced that her popular daytime show would not be renewed. Pro-vaccine doctors are threatened by the truth of vaccines, because they can't stand the thought that they might be responsible for permanent disabilities or even deaths as a result of their beliefs in vaccines. Boston Hospital Kidnapping of Teenage Girl Allowed to Continue

Imagine, if you can, what it would be like to take your child into a hospital for emergency medical treatment, and then be told that the medical treatment you had been following previously, at the recommendation from your doctors, was wrong. They tell you that your daughter was not suffering from mitochondrial disorder at all, but instead was suffering from psychosomatic symptoms that needed psychiatric care. You disagree, and so you want to discharge your daughter from Boston Children's Hospital and take her to Tufts Medical Center, where she had previously received treatment. Under their care, your daughter has been leading a fairly normal life, and she had just been competing at an ice skating event a few weeks earlier. But instead, Boston Children's Hospital calls in Child "Protection", who then award custody of your child to the hospital. You are now involved in a long legal custody battle for 10 months, while not being allowed to take your daughter out of the hospital where she is being held prisoner. Finally you get a trial before a real judge, with the hopes this judge will act with common sense and allow your daughter to come home for Christmas. But no, that didn't happen. The judge leaves your daughter in the care of the hospital, because after all, in America everyone knows that the Medical Community knows what's best for everyone. It doesn't matter that hospitals are now the third leading cause of death in the United States, or that psychiatric diagnoses are completely subjective with no objective biological testing. Even when mistakes are made, it is all done for "greater good" of society, and the pharmaceutical companies, doctors, psychiatrists, and others within the medical system get to define "good."

Study: Coconut Oil Fatty Acids have Bactericidal and Anti-inflammatory Activities Against Acne

A study published in the Journal of Dermatological Science showed once again that coconut oil can be a powerful agent to use against acne. The study, conducted in Taiwan, compared the effects of two fatty acids found in coconut oil: lauric acid and capric acid. Both fatty acids are medium chain fatty acids. Lauric acid has an abundance of research available showing its strong antimicrobial activity, but less is known about the effects of capric acid on acne. The results of their study found that lauric acid had stronger antimicrobial activity, but that capric acid was effective also. This is good news for coconut oil users, as both fatty acids are found in coconut oil. Pure coconut oil is close to 50% lauric acid, and the only other place in nature where you can find high concentrations of lauric acid is human breast milk.

Hepatitis B vaccine was not effective in preventing asymptomatic occult HBV infection in babies, which may occur in up to 40 percent of babies born to hepatitis-B-positive mothers. Hepatitis B is a primarily blood-transmitted adult disease associated with risky lifestyle choices such as unprotected sex with multiple partners and intravenous drug use involving sharing needles. Hepatitis B is not primarily a "children's disease" or one that is a common threat to newborn babies in the U.S. Any protection offered by the hepatitis B vaccine may wane by the time a child reaches his or her teenage years -- the time when acquiring a hepatitis B infection may be more likely. Ohio Proposes New Law to Have Social Services Approve Parents Before they can Homeschool their Children

The right for parents to educate their children as they desire is increasingly under attack here at the end of 2013, heading into 2014. A judge in Florida recently ordered homeschool children from one family to attend public school, against the will of their parents. As we have reported previously, homeschooling is growing seven times faster than public schooling, and the U.S. government is progressively taking actions to restrict it. Parents are increasingly keeping their children at home to educate them, avoiding government intrusion into their family lives, which includes mandatory vaccinations, toxic school meals, and questionable educational materials among other things. Having access to the nation’s children is an economic necessity for the distribution of vaccines and government subsidized food provided to the schools. As public school enrollments decrease, it causes economic hardship on pharmaceutical companies and large commodity processed food corporations. After years of successfully fighting for parental rights and acceptance of homeschooling, we are now seeing new attempts to restrict these freedoms, as is seen in this new proposed legislation in Ohio. With the introduction of Senate Bill 248 on December 3, 2013, by Senator Capri Cafaro, Ohio has suddenly become a frontline in the battle over homeschooling freedom. SB 248 is breathtakingly onerous in its scope. It requires all parents who homeschool to undergo a social services investigation which would ultimately determine if homeschooling would be permitted. Social workers would have to interview parents and children separately, conduct background checks and determine whether homeschooling is recommended or not. If it is not recommended, parents would have to submit to an “intervention” before further consideration of their request to homeschool.

Diabetes Drug Avandia Banned in Europe for Causing Cardiovascular Death, but FDA Clears it in U.S.

Diabetes drug Avandia was linked to significantly increased risks of heart attack and cardiovascular death, prompting the FDA to restrict access to the drug in 2010. Europe banned Avandia, taking it completely off the market. The FDA has now announced it is lifting those restrictions to allow widespread access to the drug once again. The decision was based on a heavily criticized study conducted by the drug’s maker, GlaxoSmithKline (which pleaded guilty to fraud in 2012 for failing to report safety problems with Avandia).

Town of Foxboro Shows Up to Defy Board of Health and Save Family Raw Milk Farm

300 people turned out for a board of health hearing in Foxboro to support the Lawton Family Raw Milk farm which was being threatened with new regulations that would have put them out of business. Their farm spans 11 generations back to the 1700s, and town support for them was strong. In the end, the board of health backed down. One board member complained they had received: “Horrible emails, mean-spirited. Some very negative voice mails were left. It was uncalled for. We have been referred to as Gestapo. Florida City Evicts Widow and Threatens to Take Away her Home for Living “Off Grid”

A Florida woman who is a widow, has no mortgage, and is up-to-date on her taxes has been served eviction papers on her home, with threats of the government seizing it. Her crime: she lives off the grid and does not purchase municipal services such as water and electricity. They condemned her home and declared it "unihabitable" due to International Law, even though they never entered the home to examine it.

Family Still Has No Answers from Police Who Shot and Killed WWII Vet in Nursing Home for Refusing Medical Treatment

John Kass of the Chicago Tribune reports this week that the family members of John Wrana, who died in his nursing care facility after police shot him with multiple rounds of bean bags from a shot gun, still have not received any explanation as to why he was killed. In July of this year (2013), we reported on this incident in Park Forest, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. John Wrana was 95 years old and a World War II veteran. When paramedics showed up to transport him to a hospital to treat his urinary tract infection, he refused to go. The paramedics then called the police, rather than ask the nursing home staff to help. When the police arrived, they were equipped in full riot gear. Mr. Wrana got around with a walker and was reportedly sitting down at the time. He still refused to go to the hospital. Police claim he had a long shoe horn that he was wielding. The police then tasered him with a taser gun. Mr. Wrana still refused to go. Police then took out a shot gun and shot him multiple times in the abdomen with bean bag rounds. John Kass of the Chicago Tribune, who has done a great job covering this story, found out later that such tactics by the police had not been used in over 10 years. The police claim Mr. Wrana had a butcher knife, but such a knife was never found, and the staff and other residents claim they never saw him with a knife. It has been nearly 6 months since this happened, and the police are still "investigating" the incident. No explanations, no findings, no charges, no one held accountable. I think they owe the family an explanation.

Sweden Admits the Swine Flu Vaccine Caused Narcolepsy

In 2011 and 2012 several European countries were investigating the claim that people were suffering from narcolepsy resulting from the swine flu vaccine manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. Finland, among others, began paying out damages for swine flu vaccines given in 2009 and 2010. Narcolepsy is a serious, disabling illness. The disease is principally characterized by a permanent and overwhelming feeling of sleepiness and fatigue. Other symptoms involve abnormalities of dreaming sleep, such as dream-like hallucinations and finding oneself physically weak or paralyzed for a few seconds (Stanford School of Medicine). Here at the end of 2013, Sweden is also admitting that the flu vaccine caused narcolepsy, and is offering an apology to the victims. The reason they are offering an apology is because the time limit to file a case for compensation has passed. So admitting something happened back in 2011 when it is no longer possible to file a claim is leaving a lot of people with no recourse - only an apology.

Australian Children to be Used as Guinea Pigs for New GMO Vaccine

A US vaccine company has applied for permission to infect up to one thousand individuals in Australia, including children, with genetically modified live bacteria contained in an oral vaccine. PaxVax recently submitted their application for permission to begin the first of three international clinical trials for the new oral cholera vaccine “via oral ingestion of the GMOs”. PaxVax claims to have several safeguards in place to “restrict the spread and persistence of the GMOs and their introduced genetic material” during this clinical trial. That precaution itself should lead any parent to question the wisdom of administering genetically modified live bacteria to their child. Unfortunately, this is not the first GM vaccine in the market. There are other GM vaccines currently in use or proposed for use in the near future, including at least one flu shot, a vaccine which has come under heavy scrutiny recently for its ineffectiveness.
